Smoky came into our care after being rescued by a kind woman who found him while hiking in a rural area. He literally ran up to her in a parking lot and followed her to her car. When she opened the door, he jumped inside! Smoky was clearly in distress with a swollen and infected right eye and nasal congestion and sneezing. And weighing only 6 pounds, she knew this poor kitty didn’t belong outside, with no homes nearby, and was clearly sick and injured.
She brought Smoky home then proceeded to search for help. As soon as we heard about Smoky’s plight, SPCA NOVA stepped in to help. Arranging for an immediate vet visit where we learned that Smoky’s right eye was damaged, probably permanently, and he had an upper respiratory infection and parasites. After a visit to a veterinary ophthalmologist, it was clear that Smoky’s eye needed to be removed to prevent chronic inflammation and possible sarcoma (cancer) down the road.
A big THANK YOU to VCA SouthPaws for taking such good care of Smoky. They arranged for surgery right away, and this sweet boy is back in his foster home healing. Smoky has never stopped purring and showed that all he wanted was love.
If you would like to help us pay for Smoky’s surgery, please consider becoming his Guardian Angel.
Thank you Karen for rescuing Smoky and caring for him until he’s healthy and ready for adoption!
